Exploring the lush realm of Vanaheim in God of War Ragnarok leads players through complex environments filled with intricate riddles and side quests. Among the most rewarding side objectives in the River Delta region is the exploration of the Vanir Shrine during Freya's personal quest. Navigating this sacred area requires solving multi-step puzzles involving environmental seals, braziers, and drawbridge mechanics.
Accessing the Vanir Shrine and Clearing the Entrance
To begin your journey into the shrine, you must navigate through Goddess Falls by clearing the massive rock blockage along the southern river. After docking your boat and climbing the waterfalls, Freya uses her magic to open the hidden passage into the Vanir Shrine. Upon entering, players are confronted by immediate combat encounters, including a dangerous Soul Eater that must be defeated before attempting the puzzles.
Igniting the Dual Torches and Opening the First Gate
The first major puzzle challenge inside the Vanir Shrine involves a large sealed red door flanked by unlit braziers. Because the torches are located far apart, you must connect them using chain reactions of Runic Sigils created with Freya's bow. Stacking enlarged sigils across both braziers allows you to ignite them simultaneously using the Blades of Chaos. Once lit, the barrier dissolves, allowing players to access the area beyond, eliminate hidden Nokken enemies, and destroy the first ceremonial item.
Lowering the Northern Drawbridge Puzzle
Returning to the main courtyard reveals an incomplete rune word that requires finding a second seal across a locked drawbridge. The bridge is held shut by heavy vines and a distant chain lock that cannot be hit directly. Players must apply Sigil Arrows along the wall to extend the reach of their fire attacks and burn away the vine cluster. Once the vines are destroyed, line up a throw with the Leviathan Axe to sever the revealed chain lock and lower the bridge.
Unlocking the Legendary Chest and Final Word Seals
Across the drawbridge lies a secondary courtyard containing additional enemies and environmental hazards. A side room within this area houses a locked gate protecting a valuable Legendary Chest. To open this gate, clear the nearby Hel's Bramble with your Blades of Chaos to reveal a hidden target wall. Shattering the target with your axe raises the gate, rewarding players with the Rampage of the Furies runic attack. Completing the remaining seal puzzles allows Freya to fully decipher the rune word and claim her legendary sword.
